Fired Up!

Okay... Kelly is scooching his soap box out the corner, setting up the mic and stepping up... and supporting a fellow Richmond Blogger  who is under fire from the locals... He is cool as shit and is no holds barred... go through this post, read the links and throw him some love...

A new law just passed in Virginia allowing folks with permits to carry conceled weapons to be able to carry them into establishments that serve alcohol... previously illegal, duh!  Anyway, a local blogger/bartender /contributor to local paper (Style Weekly)... Jack, was on the local NBC affiliate today for a head to head with a pro-gun in bar guy (I know, lame title, but it works)... I think Jack  made very good points from the side of the bartender and restaurant owner... but the other guy fell back on taking keys from those Jack may serve because they drive a 3000 pound vehicle after drinking... anyway... the NBC-12 blog went nutzo on Jack... I could not believe it... and then one person had the balls to post this (pay attention to the part in red):

pctacitus
Actually, it was Jesse Ventura that I first heard say, "In the United States, you have the right to be stupid." But I don't think Jesse meant you could be stupid without consequences. When someone like Mr Lauterback (hmmm...Congress and the Virginia GA come to mind) supports policies that put people in danger, someone must set him straight. Maybe an example will help (a stretch, I realize).
When my daughter was in college at Virginia Tech, she and her friends were always very responsible about not drinking & driving, and would take turns being the designated driver. When she was old enough to get her concealed carry permit, it occurred to me that it was a perfect fit for a designated driver to also carry concealed. The DD is not drinking anyway and would offer safety from possible attackers while the group was going to and from the vehicle. Only one problem: the law against concealed carry in establishments that serve alcohol. If Mr. Lauterback would take the time, he would discover numerous accounts of bar and restaurant patrons who have actually stopped altercations and saved lives in the process. I personally know of two, one in a bar in Indiana (which has had concealed carry since the 1930s) and one in Pennsylvania (with concealed carry since about 1989). Neither of these states have restrictions on carrying concealed in alcohol-serving establishments.
Does Mr. Lauterback know that before the current law took effect on July 1, it was perfectly legal to carry openly in a bar or restaurant that served alcohol? To me, that is a pretty stupid aspect of the law. Just what I want, some sloppy drunk grabbing at my handgun because he is able to see it (through his beer goggles).
I'm not going to argue the basic natural right to self-defense. If Mr. Lauterback doesn't get it, then there's probably not much I can do to convince him. And he is not alone in his inablity to understand - or maybe just accept - the concept. But I think the majority of Americans do understand and agree with our side. The poll attached to this TV12 story seems to witness to that (nearly 90% in favor of the new law). And we have some pretty heavy hitters on our side, too, men like Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, James Madison, Patrick Henry, to name a few.
Yes, you have a right to be stupid as long as your stupidity does not threaten the safety of myself and my loved ones. The comedian, Jackie Mason, perhaps summed it up most succinctly in the Penn & Teller special on the lunacy of gun control when he said, "Anybody who supports gun conrol is a f#@?&%!* moron." I guess that regarding the right to self-defense and the efficacy of a gun in providing that defense, you either get it or you don't. But I really think Mr. Lauterback is in the vast minority in the United

Click Here  to see article and link to video in upper righthand corner... Also, vote in favor of Jack... there is a poll on that page...and read through some of the comments... crazy ass folks up in this town... arrghhh

Not to detract from the issue at hand... but I am sure this same person will say Equal Rights for Same Sex Marriage is not right, even though then men he mentioned founded and established this country on equal rights... established the separation of Church and State and declared "Liberty and Justice for ALL".... I want to move out of Virginia... please God let me win the lottery.... Please go over and throw some support to Jack...

I now stumbble off my soapbox and go to bed.... and tomorrow i will be the bitch...hehehehe

now pushing soap box back into corner and cleaning off spillage.... did i mention i am 40 on Sunday? ahem>.>

Hodge Podge

(Warning: Picture heavy blog post here)

So Friday, I am supposed to be off work at 12:30, but did not leave until 1:30 as I was talking with one of our new agents and she rocks!  Then hit Total Wine, Kroger, and ABC Store... I then came home to lay naked on the sofa and watch Lady Gaga on The Today Show (I DVR'd it)... which, I cannot believe the gay blog world has not gone gaga over... she gave two shout outs to her gay fans and flipped around on stage in the rain... she was good... though she did have a Madonna look going... I really like her new song she debuted on the show...

She also went on to perfore my favorite song TEETH!

Now back to Friday... after watching GAGA I headed out to cut the grass and then got poured on as a quick shower rolled through... then I set the pool... Then Jeff got home from work and we decided to break out the Wii... we really have not used it much since we moved here... then it got interesting... lets just say naked Wii bowling and drinks...hehehe

Saturday we dragged our hungover asses out of bed and out to help Amanda move into her new apartment...

Jeff and Steph as we head to Amanda's to make the move...

Chris gets the award for hard worker, he was there way before us to load and then kept it up unloading... look at dem muscles!! hehe!

Amanda and Jeff unloading the truck...

Sassy Steph helping with the move...

Part of the crew lounging on the sofa after the move...

After the move we headed out to Phil's Continental Lounge for lunch... I had their famous club... Jeff had a burger and apparently there was something in the spicey mustard that caused a major allergic reaction and we spent several hours in the ER at St Mary's as they pumped him with drugs and all... which made him a bit sleepy and he napped there in ER, then he was released feeling ALOT better... he is going to line up a visit to a doc to find out what he is allergic to this week... it was a tad scarey, but all it well and he is back to himself now...

Once back home, the sun had come out and the pool was calling my name...

So I had to jump in...

Cricket just hung out in the shade...

Hello wet t-shirt...

Jeff set up the dart board in the backyard for our season of darts.... I know the shed is tragic, but it holds the dartboard well...

Pino came out, but was not really too interested in watching darts...

After darts, Chris showed up for drinks and some Wii bowling...

Chris really getting into the Wii bowling... nice legs...

A little jiggy dance for bowling (and BrettCajun)...

More wine please....

A + for style...

Awww come on!!! not a strike???

Thus our Saturday.

One tiny leap...

Tonight Cricket finally jumped up in the chair on the porch after months of watching Pino sitting there... It has been driving her crazy not to be up there, but when Jeff went in to fix dinner, followed by Pino... she finally took the leap...and we hung out for a while, until I had to start the grill...

Thank goodness that tomorrow is Friday!!

Lots on my mind...

Just wanted to grill some steak and asparagus, even in the 100 degree heat... but it was good...

I do have a lot going on mentally between work, a friend working his way back to health, our wedding coming up in just 3 months, my 40th in two weeks and this fucking heatwave in Richmond... arrghhh... So, put on a pretty face (with zits), grill up some food and be there for all aspects of life... It is life and we all need to be there for each other and ourselves... could any of the things I mentioned be life altering?  Yes.  But, at this point, all are at points that they will likely improve... work (making it work)...friend(getting great care and his stubborn ass will rebound and is already sounding and looking better)...wedding (I got 3 months)...40th(I am not dreading, I think it is great and I get a day off from work... hello wine for True Blood on my bday, though it will be white and not red)... and as for the weather... fuck it... for the moment we have A/C and 7-11 is around the corner for Slurpee's and ice... so I roll on with life and hope things improve for all involved...not everyday will be great, but, such is life... I think Mame puts it best...

And thus is my plan...

(maybe with some vodka and Fresca)

(When is Coca-Cola gonna start sending me money for promoting Fresca so much on my blog and Facebook???)

July 4th/5th/6th

Saturday was pretty uneventful as we got the pool blown up and filled up... thought about cleaning the house... decided naaahhh...  thought we were going to go out see friends, but delayed that to Sunday, thought about completely cleaning off the porch and re-hanging lights on the porch... naaahh.. we did get dressed after women's Wimbledon and got up the street to get a new sprinkler, deposit check and have a quick lunch at Phil's (yummy). When got back we did clear off the fence AGAIN... then super duper sprayed it down with weed killer... hopefully it will keep it down for a bit...

Sunday...

Sunday the 4th... we were up kinda early... Jeff focused on the men's final at Wimbledon and I focused on cleaning the porch off... then we head down to see Sloan and the Mulligan's crew play Baja Bean in softball... they were cracking us the hell up... nothing like two rival restaurants talking smack...

Me and my best friend... Sloan... in the picture before this one, he was the one playing third base... and he also scored the first run for the team... woo hoo!!! He finally scores!!! hehee...  Jeff and I only stayed a for a few innings as we made the rounds to see folks on the forth... after the game, we stopped by FW Sullivan's (see link to left)  to see my fraternity brother Jake and his crew....had a few beers, then headed over to Joe and Lairds to check in with them to see how the unpacking and rearranging was going... then we came home to finish work on the porch cleaning and then some time in the pool...

THE POOL IS OPEN!  Well, it is nothing fancy, but at least you can cool off in it...

Jeff and I started watching Twilight (shhhh) then Steph and Chris came over... we all had a bunch of wine and drinks and they crashed here... then Monday rolled around...

I was up a bit earlier than Jeff, but we both were just tooling around the house... it was starting to get hot outside... and after eating, we decided to jump in pool and get some sun...

Say what you want...it is a cheesy pool... but I like it...

These swim trunks actually make me look like I have an ass...boom boom POW! ( big dark spot on back is shadow from tree)

When we think the neighbors aren't looking, might sneak in kiss or a little fondling... *blush*

This is Pedro our Flamingo... well, he was Chris's, but he had four or five of them in front of his townhouse, so he let us snag one... we may get more...hmmmm...

Just thinking... did not last long...

Pino crashed out in the shade and the mulch under the dryer vent, which was going... Cricket decided she would stay inside in the nice cool A/C...

YO! The sun and vodka fresca getting too me...G!

Just grillin'... some steaks and asparagus...mmmmmm... I am on a steak kick... once off the grill, sprinkle it with crumbled blue cheese....mmmmm... also had pork that way this weekend...YUM!

Actually we ate while finishing Twilight (shhhhhhhhh!) and then headed to bed at a decent hour to get rested up for today... arghh... Tuesday's after three day weekends are like double Mondays... and the heat is on in the R I C....

This evening after work I had to run backout to grab a bag of ice and lotto tickets and this was the reading on the dashboard... actually fell down to 112 degrees after driving for a bit... officially I think it was 102 or something... Wednesday is supposed to be over 100 and humid...YUK!  You think they will let me keep the ice cold vodka fresca rolling at work??? LOL...

I hope everyone had a great 4th.  To those around the world, hope you had a good Monday... now only two and half days left in the workweek... woo hoo!!

The Far West End

Jeff, Amanda, Chris, Steph and ME!

So tonight we ventured to the FAR FAR West End of Richmond for our friend Amanda's birthday/cookout/meet her new man party... at the new man's house... I am slacking on the picture taking so I did not get a shot of him, but they are adorable together and he has a fucking nice ass townhouse... we were all a bit jealous, but such is life... we are happy for Amanda and her new found love... and they fucking fed us some good ass food... beef kabobs and stephs taters and corn salad and chocolate cake and I have gained 5 pounds... arghhhh.... oh well... once Jeff and I got back home, he pretty much went to bed and I fell asleep watching SNL, but am now wide awake so I thought I would make a blog post... who knows what today will bring.  Have an idea of what we want to do, but things could change... who knows! Happy 4th!
