Movie night...

Jeff and I decided that we wanted to see Precious.  After work, we came home and let the dogs out, fed them and headed to Kitchen 64 for a couple drinks beforehand.  We wanted to go to an early screening, because we knew the place would be packed with Twilight geeks.

We got a call from Stacy and she stopped by for a glass of wine after she got off work...

Now, on to the movie.  6:40 showing.  Of course there were lines for the Twilight shit, but I was pretty amazed at the almost full theatre for Precious.  Now, please don't hate me for sounding a little stereotypical here, but I have to.  A majority of the people in this theatre were black women... and many of them probably have not even read the jacket cover of the book.  They were there to see a story about a strong black woman.  This added to the entertainment of the movie as there were many times you could hear more than one woman talking back to the screen.  Kinda funny.  Now the movie itself...well, I think I had super high expectations going in... Now Precious is a great movie, don't get me wrong, but maybe not worth some of the hype.  I could see an Oscar nod or two here, considering there really has not been anything (except the Julia Child movie) that has been worthy of Oscar buzz this year.  It is very much worth seeing on the big screen.  It has some very strong language and very disturbing subject matter, but very well put together.  Take a tissue, there are a couple of parts that just rip at you.

Now after the movie, you would have thought we were at the Superbowl or something.  The huge parking lot was full, people were parking on the medians and sidewalks.  Others driving around following people who were walking to their cars.  I have never seen this much action at here or any other movie theatre, though I usually avoid them on big weekends like Twilight night... but between Precious and Twilight, it made for a pretty interesting mix of folks to say the least...

Have a great weekend... now have to go help Steph move...
